(Occasional mainly light spotting, browning and offsetting, generally not affecting plates.) 19th-century half green morocco gilt (joints and edges rubbed), top edges gilt. Provenance : D. J. Balfour Kirke (bookplate). FIRST EDITION of "a rather rare, well-written account of 33 species, with excellent plates" (Wood, p.590). Nissen IVB 920. ALBIN, Eleazar (fl. 1713-1759). A Natural History of English Song-Birds , London: R. Ware, 1738. 8° (196 x 111mm). Engraved frontispiece and 23 copper-engraved plates. (F4 with short tears, hinges with tape reinforcement, occasional light spotting and browning.) 19th century blindstamped calf (rubbed). Provenance : Stephenson Browne (bookplates and presentation inscription). Second issue (the first issue was 1737) of "a popular, indeed famous little book of which there have been many editions" (Wood p.184). cf. Nissen IVB 17. (2)
