The first volume is one of the various sermons pronounced in the memory of Haham Isaac Aboab da Fonseca, by Solomon Judah Leon Templo, son of Jacob Judah Leon Templo. The second volume, another sermon by Solomon Judah, deals with the subject of Mosaic Law, and the perennial question whether its study or its practice should prevail. It is a typical instance of the highly cultivated and rhetorical form in which the Dutch Sephardi approached the art of the sermon. Solomon Judah had been the youngest pupil of Isaac Aboab. He was one of the most gifted preachers of the Portuguese Jewish community of Amsterdam, and regularly delivered sermons at the Charitable Societies and Yeshivas of Abi Yetomim and Neve Sedek. (2)
