Terra Nova Expedition. An autograph album containing eight signatures of members of Captain Scott’s British Antarctic expedition, 1910-13, signed in among other unrelated signatures on four non-consecutive pages, the first signed ‘Edward R.G.R. Evans, “Terra Nova”‘, beneath the signatures of W.H. Diamond and P. Lowry Rusten [of The Mercantile Pontoon Co. Limited, Cardiff], the second page with two autographs of ‘Harry Pennell, Lieutenant, S.Y. Terra Nova, June 10’, with ‘R. Scott’ in clear blue pencil beneath, the third page with autographs of ‘P. Keohane, “Terra Nova”‘, ‘J.H. Mather’ and ‘James Payton’, the fourth page signed by the two other members, ‘George Percy Abbott RN, SS Terra Nova, British Antarctic Expedition 1910’ and ‘Alf J. Brewster. We leave to win. 14-6-10’, the remainder of the album containing unrelated and unidentified autographs, signed quotations and two sketches, family names predominantly Fox and Sullivan, the first three pages containing signatures of F.M. Fox, Frank J. Fox, J. Robinson Thomas McKilney, John Mander, Egerton Bigg and A.W. Callahan, most dates circa 1909-16, a total of 44 pp. with inscriptions (52 pp. blank), all edges gilt, original padded morocco gilt, rubbed, small oblong 8vo (10 x 13cm). The eight British Antarctic expedition autographs comprise: Captain Robert Falcon Scott (1868-1912), expedition leader; Lieutenant Edward (Teddy) Ratcliffe Garth Russell Evans (1881-1957), second-in-command; petty officer George Abbott, Able Seaman Alfred Brewster; petty officer Patrick Keohane. From the ship’s party: petty officer John Hugh Mather, able seaman James Payton and Commander Harry L.L. Pennell. (1)
