TEXAS. TEXAS ASSOCIATION.] A letter and three printed items relating to the Texas Association, including: MERCER, THOMAS FENTON. Autograph letter signed ("T. F Mercer") to Secretary of the Navy John Y. Mason, "National Hotel," 25 October 1845, 3 pages, 4to, original envelope , forwarding the following three items describing the vast Texas lands Mercer eventually sold to the Republic of Texas: "The interest you kindly manifested in my Texas colony induces me to send you the accompanying papers which supply nearly all the information which I could give upon the subject..."; MERCER. Printed broadsheet: "The Contract of Colonization...With the President of Texas," and "Agreement between Charles F. Mercer, Original Grantee...and the Stockholders of the Texas Association, January 29, 1844," n.p., n.d. [1845], 3 pages, folio, printed on pale green paper, a few small tears at fold intersections , a lengthy legal contract outlining the purchase terms between Mercer and President of Texas, Sam Houston and prospective settlers, page 3 (verso blank) with a hand-colored lithographic map of the Texas Association lands, entitled "Map of the Mercer Colony in Texas, May 1st, 1845," imprint of "Fishbourne's Lithog. 46 Canal Street," the map 222 x 236 mm. (8 3/4 x 9 3/16 in.) ; MERCER. Printed broadside: "Texas Colonization," with printed text of a letter from Mercer dated New Orleans, 20 August 1845, and an "Extract from the late Ordinance of the Convention of the People of Texas," n.p., n.d. [c.August 1845], 1 page, small 4to, printed in two columns , offering land in the Texas Association tracts, describing location and noting "title to the land may be obtained...after settlement, from the Texan Government, on condition of building on it a comfortable cabin, and enclosing and cultivating not less than 15 acres for three years..."; [MERCER]. Clipping from the Alexandria Gazette containing a letter from Mercer, 1 September 1845, with two ink corrections (probably by Mercer), 1 page, folio, two full columns text; together 4 items . (4)
