(13¾x9¼"), modern boards. Complete Acts of the Apostles, with two woodcut maps, from the third folio edition of the Bishops' Bible. First appearing in 1568, the Bishops' Bible was an attempt to replace the Calvinistic Geneva Bible with a translation more in tune with the Episcopalian aims of the Church of England. It was extensively revised for the 1572 second folio edition, which is closely followed by this 1574 printing. This revised edition was to be prescribed as the base text for the Authorized King James Version of 1611. STC 2109; Herbert 137.
