The Andy Elson Collection of Breitling Watches - QuinetiQ1 Record Attempt - Breitling Chronometre Emergency 121.5 MHz 'QinetiQ1' titanium gentleman's wristwatch, reference no. E56321, serial no. 336xxx, black dial with QinetiQ1 logo, Arabic numerals, multifunction digital displays and inner bezel with hour/minute markers, rotating navigational bezel, antenna caps, Breitling bracelet with folding clasp, quartz, 44mm including crown guards; with Breitling pouch and cleaning cloth - Provenance: - Breitling presented this watch to Andy Elson and is a unique piece bearing the QinetiQ1 logo. - 2002 - Sponsored by defence and technology organisation QinetiQ, Andy Elson and Colin Prescot trained as cosmonauts and designed and built the largest manned balloon in history. The goal to fly to 132,000 feet seated on an open platform wearing space suits. Unfortunately despite several attempts it was finally abandoned following an irreparable tear of the balloon. - Breitling, the renowned aviation watch manufacturer, sponsored and/or assisted in a range of pioneering balloon record attempts. The global balloon flights between were the catalyst for the design and development of the iconic Breitling Emergency Watch with its integral distress beacon that transmits on 121.5 MHz.
