Designs for villas and cottages in a variety of styles which were derived from English pattern books by such architects as Goodwin, Hunt & Robinson. Ranlett was an important 19th-century architect whose book was one of the first to weave the house into of its environment, incorporating gardens, fences and walkways. The designs were adapted to American conditions within their landscapes (of which plans are attached).
