Knopf Date: 1923 Description: Large, thick quarto (28.5cm.); publisher's half vellum over batik-style paper-covered boards, top edge gilt; xx, 20 pp. & 152 leaves of photographic plates, approximately half in color and each accompanied by a printed tissue-guard; additional color photographic frontispiece with printed tissue guard. First American Edition. Limited to 1500 copies, this being no. 767. Lavishly produced catalog comprised of 192 images of pieces both in public and private hands, compiled in part by Robert Lockhart Hobson, the head of the department of Ceramics and Ethnography at the British Museum and one of the founding members (and later president of) the Oriental Ceramic Society. Donated by Lorne Bair Rare Books, Winchester, VA. Lot Amendments Condition: Some light shelf wear, vellum lightly dust-soiled with some brief foxing, front joint expertly repaired, else a Very Good, sound copy, internally near fine.
