First two years won by Glenna Collett (second time as Glenna Vare), Jane Brooks in 1932, Jane Evans in 1933, Beatrice Stevens in 1934, and Ethel Barksdale Wack (1898-1974) in 1935. Bottom with maker’s codes and symbols plus “Dodge Sterling by Hand. G.P.7.” Measurements: 3¼" tall; base diameter 3¾", middle approximate 1½" and top diameter 8¼". Glenna Collett-Vare (1903-1989), the Hall of Fame golfer who’s been called “the greatest female golfer of her day” dominated American women's golf in the 1920's to 1940's. Between 1928 and 1931, she recorded 16 consecutive victories and in a career won six U.S. championships, six North & South Amateurs and six Eastern Amateurs (besides other event wins and numerous runner-ups). In 1924 Collett achieved the most remarkable record in golfing history, both female and male, winning 59 of 60 events entered (the one loss was at the U.S. amateur to Mary K. Browne in a play-off and only after Browne's ball caromed off Collett's and into the cup). Also, the 1935 winner, Ethel Wack, is a noteworthy portrait artist, residing in Santa Barbara, California. The Barksdale Cup began in 1930 and played at the Westport Golf Club, which is located in the Adirondacks, Champlain Valley, New York. One tournament was held for the men and one for the women. Lot Amendments Condition: Faint spots and occasional tiny nicks, light fingerprints, about fine and very attractive in the 1930’s Art Deco style. Item number: 178995
