The Collection of Medals to Welsh Regiments formed by the Late Llewellyn Lord The medal for Fort Detroit awarded to Private William Arter, 41st Foot, who was taken prisoner at Moravian Town in October 1813 Military General Service 1793-1814, 1 clasp, Fort Detroit (W. Arter, 41st Foot.) fitted with ribbon buckle and privately made ribbon bar inscribed with the Battle Honour ‘MIAMI’, extremely fine £2600-3000 Footnote Private William Artor was taken prisoner at the battle of Moravian Town on 5 October 1813. William Arter/Artor first appears on the muster rolls (as ‘John’ Artor) of the 41st Foot at Montreal from 11 July 1809, a volunteer from the Militia. With Regiment at Montreal until June 1811. During March to June 1810 his name is given as ‘William’. With Regiment at Fort George, June to October 1811. On command at Fort Erie, November, at Chippawa December 1811. Private William Artor on command at Chippawa, December 1811 to 24 May 1812. With Regiment at Fort George, June 1812. On command at Amherstburg July, Chippawa 23 August 1812 to 24 January 1813 (sometimes given as William Arthur). With Regiment, stations not given, March to June 1813. With Regiment at Sandwich, Canada, June to September. Private William Artor, prisoner of war, 5 October 1813. Prisoner of war until 28 September 1814. Rejoined Regiment at 29 September 1814, at Three Rivers, Canada, where he continued until December 1814. With Regiment at Quebec, December 1814 to March 1815. At sea March to June 1815. With Regiment in France, June to December 1815. To Ireland from England, with Regiment, and by February 1816 at Naas. Private William Artor discharged 1 April 1816, period expired. Sold with muster roll details.
