The Collection of Medals to Welsh Regiments formed by the Late Llewellyn Lord The Peninsula War medal awarded to Captain I. W. Harris, 23rd Foot, who was severely wounded through both thighs at Albuhera, received a contusion in the head at Pampluna, and was severely wounded in the right thigh at Orthes; he was afterwards present at Waterloo Military General Service 1793-1814, 3 clasps, Albuhera, Vittoria, Orthes (J. W. Harris, Lieut 23rd Foot.) reverse of clasp carriage fitted with brooch pin, light marks, otherwise very fine £2400-3000 Footnote Isaac Watkins Harris was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the 23rd Foot on 10 December 1808, and was promoted to Lieutenant on 20 June 1811. He served in the Walcheren expedition in 1809, and in the Peninsula with the 1st Battalion from December 1810 to September 1811, and from December 1812 to April 1814. He was present at the 1st siege of Badajoz, the battle of Albuhera on 16th of May 1811 (’severely wounded through both thighs’), battle of Vittoria on 23rd June 1813, battle of Pampluna in the Pyreness on 28th July 1813 (’received a contusion in the head’), and at the battle of Orthes on 27th February 1814 (’severely wounded in the right thigh’). He served in No. 8 Company at the battle of Waterloo. Promoted to Captain on 7 April 1825, he was placed on half pay on 9 April 1826 and continued so until almost 1850, when he is supposed to have died. Sold with copied research.
