THE CRUCIFIXION AND TRANSFIGURATION WITH SELECTED SAINTS RUSSIAN, DATED 10 OCTOBER 1901 The central section divided into three registers, the upper one showing the Crucifixion with the Ancient of the Days appearing in the clouds above, the middle one representing the Transfiguration of Christ on Mount Tabor, the bottom frieze portraying the Tikhvinskaya Mother of God flanked by Sts. Agaphia and Theodore to the left and Sts. Nikanor and Barbara to the right, the borders showing selected saints, including the prince St. Alexander Nevsky and the emperor Constantine the Great, the figures painted realistically, the faces rendered finely with soft colours, each with a radiating halo, the gold background elaborately decorated with tooled foliate scrolls, the lower section inscribed with the dedication of the panel: To the Church of Transfiguration of Our Lord in Liublino, in gratitude to the Heavenly Tsar Who granted the possibility to behold the face of the earthly Tsar, as well as to serve in the Royal City and to live in the parish of St Isaac's Cathedral; in honour of the highly esteemed and most kind Superior of this church, Father Nikanor Veletsky, and in prayerful and unfading memory of Mother Agaphia, Archpriest Konstantin and priest Peter. Oh, Lord, Save the Tsar and your servant Vasily. Remember the supplicant who for their sakes brought this icon and her, who wrote this image.
