Each with frontispieces in two states (one hand-colored and one tinted); the first two volumes each with their added pictorial title page containing hand-colored vignettes and each with two hand-colored vignettes (one at each the beginning and end of the Prologue); each volume illustrated with a few plates (tinted or sepia-tone) from paintings by various artists and some from photographs; each with an added pictorial title page; all plates with printed descriptive tissue-guards. Artists include: Gustav Klimt Eugene Delaereix, Alfred Raschel, Franz Stuck, A. Russell, et al. 9x6¼, original half dark blue morocco and marbled boards, decoratively ruled in gilt, spines with three gilt-stamped vignettes, middle floral vignette with red morocco inlays, marbled endpapers, top edges gilt. No. 3 of 250 hand-numbered sets. Athenian Edition. Classic works of Drama with beautiful illustrations from around the globe, including Greece, Italy, Asia, Spain, Portugal, France, Germany, Great Britain, Scandinavia, Russia, and finally the United States. There were two addendum volumes produced the following year, which were not illustrated and not included here. Lot Amendments Condition: Light wear overall, occasional edge wear; some with tender hinges; Volume II with dampstaining to lower portion of first three leaves and 3" piece of front free endpaper torn and affixed to front pastedown; an attractively bound set, clean and bright; else near fine or better.
