Here we are delighted to be able to offer a decidedly modern-era Le Mans classic – one of the Mopar Team Oreca-entered Reynard-Chrysler LM P 900 sports-prototype cars which contested the year 2000 Le Mans 24-Hours race. One of these French-entered, British-built and American-engined cars – that carrying the race number ‘6’ - finished 20th overall that year, co-driven by Belgians Didier Theys and Jeffrey van Hooydonck, and Frenchman Didier André. During the 24-Hour classic they completed no fewer than 292 laps of the legendary Circuit de la Sarthe, totalling 3,973.32 kilometres. During qualifying the car lapped the course in 3 minutes 52.522seconds. The car spent some 40 minutes in the pit garage having its water pump replaced on the Saturday evening of the race, and at 21:45hrs it was reported to have stopped at the exit to Arnage Corner, before rejoining the race and being driven back round to the pits. Much time was lost with the car being painstakingly worked upon but the Oreca team would not give up and the car continued to race. On the Sunday afternoon it was slowed by a clutch problem, yet despite all these problems the car survived to the race finish, Reynard-Chrysler defeating the two surviving Cadillac LMP entries. Oreca Racing – the team run by veteran ex-Matra endurance racing manager Hugues de Chaunac - is an illustrious name in the world of long-distance Grand Touring and sports-prototype competition – perhaps best known for its dominance in the modern GT class of the late 1990s into 2001 with the Chrysler Viper front-engined classics. Cars campaigned by the Ricard-Castellet based company captured the relevant FIA GT World Championship titles in 1998-1999 and 2000, the American Le Mans Series in 1999-2000, 1-2 wins in the GTS Category of the Le Mans 24-Hours in 1998-99-2000 and victory in the Daytona 24-Hours race of 2000. For Oreca Racing adoption of the Reynard chassis with Mopar Chrysler power and backing was a new departure. The 6-litre Chrysler V8 engine was an important weapon in the American automobile manufacturing giants’ newly-joined battle at Le Mans which saw Chrysler and Cadillac facing one another in open sports-prototype competition for the first time in very many years. This most attractive and potent genuine Le Mans car is offered here with an impressive inventory of spares and is described as "new" throughout.
