The following six lots form part of the Frederick Parker Collection The firm Frederick Parker & Sons was founded in 1870, spending much of its life in the furniture-making centre of High Wycombe and becoming Parker Knoll in 1942. In the first decades of the 20th century Frederick Parker put together a unique collection of chairs from the 17th to 19th centuries, which, at its peak, numbered some 350 with a view to his craftsmen copying them for clients and also seeing how fine furniture of that period was made. The Collection, now owned by the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers as an educational resource, has been refined and added to over the years and currently numbers some 200 chairs, including some contemporary pieces. They are available for study at London Metropolitan University near Aldgate East.
