THE FORTY TRADITIONS OF THE PROPHET AND THEIR PERSIAN TRANSLATIONS BY JAMI COPIED BY SALIM, MASHHAD, IRAN, DATED AH 986/1578-79 AD Hadith, Arabic and Persian manuscript on paper, 9ff. plus 2 fly-leaves, each folio with 7-9ll. of black naskh all contained in gold-sprinkled panels with gold interlinear and intercolumnar rules, most folios with two such panels with 4ll. of diagonal nasta'liq , text laid down between gold and polychrome rules on blue marbled paper, opening folio with gold and polychrome illuminated panel and the first bifolio with lines of nasta'liq running straight across the text panel, colophon signed Salim in Mashhad and dated 986, wormholing, in purple cloth boards with red morocco spine and spandrels signed Yusuf Sahaf 'Ali Folio 9 x 6¼in. (23 x 15.7cm.); text panel 5 1/8 x 2¾in. (13.5 x 7cm.)
