Title: The Glory of the Shia World Author: Sykes, Percy Molesworth Place: London Publisher: Macmillan Date: 1910 Description: xiv, 279 pp. Translated & edited from a Persian Manuscript by Major P.M. Sykes, assisted by Khan Bahadur Ahmad Din Khan. Illustrated with small photographs & wood engravings throughout text; 4 color plates, including frontispiece, all with tissue-guards. 8¾x5½, decorative dark blue cloth with gilt decoration of a temple to front cover, embossed red floral designs to spine & front cover, spine lettered in gilt. First Edition. The Tale of a Pilgrimage. The author 'would state frankly that my ambition has been to write a second Haji Baba, which would serve as a true picture of Persia (in 1900), just as Morier in his immortal work depicted it in the reign of Fath Ali Shah.' From Preface. Lot Amendments Condition: Minor fading and light stains to rear cover, spine ends slightly frayed; lacking rear free endpaper, slight adhesion damage to rear pastedown, bookplate, very good, an attractive book.
