Engraved frontispiece and one plate, 5 leaves of woodcuts at end. Recent half calf. One of two editions published by F. Newbery in the same year and 'sold at Hughes's riding school'. The frontispiece shows Mr. and Mrs. Hughes, the engraved plate their riding school, and the woodcuts the 'many attitudes by which Mr. Hughes and his assistants prove their amazing dexterity in horsemanship'. ESTC locates 5 copies of each edition; and in this edition appears to mistakenly call for 63 [1]p. rather than 63 [11]p. NO COPY OF THIS EDITION IN BL. Huth p. 46; cf. Roscoe A245; not in Mellon/Podeschi. [PARSONS, Philip (1729-1812)]. Newmarket: or, an Essay on the Turf . London: for the author, and sold by R. Baldwin and J.
