With the final advertisement leaf. (A little spotting at beginning and end.) Contemporary sprinkled calf, panels of spine ruled in gilt (a little rubbed, hinges rather worn). Provenance : William Charles de Meuron, 7th Earl Fitzwilliam (1872-1943, armorial bookplate). FIRST ENGLISH EDITION. Huth p.5 (giving the first English edition as 1572 but mistaking Publius for Flavius). WARD, William. A New Treatise on the Method of Breeding, Breaking, and Training Horses . Edinburgh: J. Dickson C. Elliot and W. Schaw, 1776. 8° (221 x 130mm). Folding engraved frontispiece by J. Cowan after J. Elliott and 3 folding plates. (Frontispiece a trifle stained and with a short split at one fold, occasional light browning and waterstaining.) 20th-century polished half calf, gilt equine tools in panels of spine, top edges gilt, others uncut (spine faded). FIRST EDITION. Huth p.47; Mellon/Podeschi 62. BURDON, William. The Gentleman's Pocket-Farrier; shewing, how to use your Horse on a Journey. London: for the Author, 1730. 8° (160 x 88mm).
