or Red Book for Shanghai for the Year 1894, printed and published at the "North-China Herald" Office, Shanghai, [1893], title printed in red and green, printed red rule borders throughout, title-page a little dust soiled and creased at foremargin, a little minor soiling throughout, somewhat shaken and hinges cracked, contemporary ownership signature to front pastedown, original red morocco gilt, slightly rubbed, 8vo All editions of this annual publication are uncommon. The book begins with a series of colloquial phrases and then gives details of family hotels and boarding houses, names of roads of the various settlements, followed by 76-page alphabetical directory of ladies, mostly with addresses. The book contains a diary for visiting notes (this copy not completed), and ends with useful notes about festivals, postage, weights and measures and 3 pages of trade adverts. (1)
