Blamire Date: 1784 Description: [2], vi, [6], 235 pp. 8¼x5, bound in eighteenth century calf with gilt tooling. First Edition. One the earliest biographies on Cranmer (1489–1556), who was the Archbishop of Canterbury during the reigns of the English kings Henry VIII and Edward VI. The author, Gilpin (1724-1804) is best known for his "Picturesque" works, influential appreciations of Romantic landscapes in England and Scotland. Engraved armorial bookplate on the front pastedown. Lot Amendments Condition: Front board and front free endpaper detached (but present), appears to be lacking spine labels, mild edge wear; foxing; good or better. Item number: 160563
