Caisson en bois (268 x 188 x 62 mm) intérieur compartimenté pour recevoir un cylindre en verre argenté (100 mm de haut, et 35 mm diamètre), et 24 planches lithographiées et coloriées; boîtier original en bois, couvercle avec titre lithographié imprimé en couleurs et monté. Très joli jeu d'anamorphose, complet de ses 24 planches et son fragile cylindre en verre souffl é, créé par la société des McLoughlin brothers aux États-Unis. Les jeux d'anamorphose ont inspiré les scientifi ques depuis le XVIIe siècle dont les plus célèbres sont Nicéron et Kircher. Les planches représentent des personnages réels ou imaginaires, des animaux, une danse de morts, des cartes à jouer, des métiers, le Chat botté, des têtes couronnées, etc. Il est rare de trouver le jeu complet des 24 planches, avec le cylindre, et avec son boîtier en bon état. Couvercle brisé mais entier, avec petits éclats à l'image. Rare complete set of 24 anamorphosis cards preserved in the original box, created at about 1900 by the McLoughlin brothers in New York. The cards depict a variety of professions, kings and queens, animals, a playing card, a dance of death, Puss in Boots, and more. Anamorphic images, distorted in a way that one can only view them from a certain angle and wit the help of an optical instrument have inspired scientists since the 17th century and including Niceron and Kircher.
