(The March Sale | Fine Art, Antiques & Jewellery, 21st March 2020) French School, 18th century depicting the portrait of a member of the French 'Lumieres' (possibly Voltaire), from the Enlightenment period in the second half of the 18th century, oil on canvas, within a carved giltwood frame, the stretcher inscribed 'Voltaire'. Provenance: This picture had hung at Locko Park in the Drury-Lowe collection for at least 100 years; it bears a collection number (no. 183) to the bottom of the frame which links it directly to the Locko Park collection, being listed in Jean Paul Richter's catalogue for the estate's picture collection, published in 1901. 58 cm x 48 cm
