The Naas Autumn Cup, 1949. A Victorian amphora shaped presentation cup of large proportions, by Elkington & Co. Ltd, Birmingham 1862. The finial cast in high relief in the form of Neptune with streaming hair standing in an open shell and with his trident plunged into a matrix of frothing waves from which four rearing sea horses emerge. This above a circular band of wrythen fluted waves with curling tops above a frieze of acorn motifs to the rim. The base having rope twist motifs enclosing flutes interposed with scrolling scallop shells, and flanked by twin wreath handles held aloft by a pair of Tritons and raised on a knopped stem and circular spreading foot. 40cm high, 35cm diameter.
