Later issues of wrappers on parts 1-11, wrappers of parts 1-15 dated 1836, those of parts 16-19/20 dated 1837, second states of text in half the parts. Hatton & Cleaver, pp. 3-88; Grolier English 78. 20 parts in 19 volumes, octavo. 43 engraved plates, including engraved title, by R. Seymour, R. W. Buss, and Hablot K. Browne (10 plates browned), mixed states of the plates. Inserted advertisements lacking in 13 parts and partially lacking in 4 others. Original green pictorial wrappers, uncut, ends of spines of 7 parts chipped, 5 parts rebacked, spines of a few other parts repaired and/or worn, front cover of part 12 stained; custom morocco pull-off case by Root (sunned). Provenance: Estelle Doheny (morocco bookplate to chemise; her sale, Christie's New York, 21 February 1989, lot 1819). Please note this lot is the property of a private individual.
