Title: The Pyramids of Gizeh, From Actual Survey and Admeasurement... Illustrated by notes and references to the several plans with sketches taken on the spot, by E.J. Andrews Author: Perring, James Ernest Place: London Publisher: James Fraser Date: 1839-1842 Description: 3 parts in 1. With 59 plates & maps in all. Part 1 with title-page, list of plates, map on 2 double-page sheets, 7 fold-out text pages, & 16 double-page plates; Part 2 with title-page, list of plates, 15 fold-out text pages, & 19 double-page plates; Part 3 with title-page, preface/list of plates, 24 fold-out text pages, & 22 double-pages plates. All plates and maps are lithographed, some with sepia. (folio) 61x45 cm. (24x17¾"), disbound. The greatest illustrated work on the Pyramids of Giza, complete albeit disbound and worn copy of perhaps the greatest work devoted to the pyramids of Giza in Egypt, being the first scientific measurement and mapping of the Great Pyramid and its smaller neighbors. The large double-page plates show the pyramids and surrounding areas, the interior plans and details, etc. Quite rare in complete form with all three parts and all its plates: WordCat lists only two complete copies, at Cambridge University and the National Library of Sweden. Because of its large size and paper, the book is quite fragile, and surviving copies are often incomplete, with pages chipped and torn. Though the present copy has some blank edges chipped with short tears, the interiors of the plates and text pages are generally quite nice. The three parts are: Pt.1. The Great Pyramid -- Pt.2. The second and third pyramids, the three smaller to the southward of the third and the three to the eastward of the Great Pyramid -- Pt.3. The pyramids to the southward of Gizeh and at Abous Roash ; also, Campbell's tomb, and a section of the rock at Gizeh ... accompanied by remarks on the hieroglyphics by S. Birch. Worthy of restoration. Lot Amendments Condition: Page edges often worn and chipped, some leaves in final part with minor stains; sold as is. Item number: 253806
