Title: The Roof of the World, Being the Narrative of a Journey Over the High Plateau of Tibet to the Russian Frontier and the Oxus Sources on Pamir Author: Gordon, T[homas] E[dward] Place: Edinburgh Publisher: Edmonston and Douglas Date: 1876 Description: xiv, 172 pp. 24 full-page lithograph plates drawings and watercolors by the author, including 4 in color and 1 folding; folding map at rear; drawings in the text. (8vo) 25.5x17.5 cm (10x7") modern full green morocco, spine lettered in gilt. First Edition. The author was Honorary Aide-de-Camp to the Viceroy of India, attached to the Special Mission to Kashgar. Gordon was one of the first Europeans to explore and hunt sheep in the Tian Shan and Pamir highlands. Yakushi G88. Lot Amendments Condition: Some light foxing within; a few plates lightly edges worn, one loosely attached, short tear to folding map at rear; very good in a fine modern binding. Item number: 279717a
