FUNG, H.K. The Shop Signs of Peking. Peking: Chinese Painting Association of Peking, 1931. Limited edition, one of only 100 copies. A beautifully colored book showing the signs used by Chinese shopkeepers to advertise their trade. They are colored in gold, silver and colors. Each sign is accompanied by a description in English and Chinese. Brown paper title slip with white borders on the front cover, reading Yandu Shangbang Tu. Oblong quarto (245 x 365 mm). Title page, preface and table of contents. (A little pale foxing.) 18 leaves incorporating 101 hand-colored illustrations. Original cloth-backed brocade boards, tied with black ropes (title slip and edges slightly chipped, some soiling on the covers). Please note that this lot is subject to an import tariff. If the buyer instructs Christie’s to arrange shipping of the lot to a foreign address, the buyer will not be required to pay the import tariff.
