Lubbock, which are hand-made from copper-plates, worked by engraving, etching and aquatint, and the colors printed in intaglio and relief with additional color applied by hand; all printed on hand-made paper. Plus, an extra suite in folder titled “Lubbock Copy” in black ink, containing: two original drawings (pastel with pencil) by Lubbock, 22 original manuscript / layout leaves for the book (4 are hand-written in pencil and 18 are typed with holographic corrections), all by Lubbock, plus three aquatint prints that were used for the book. (Folio) 15½x11, original loose unbound sheets, laid inside publisher blue cloth clamshell box with gilt-lettered morocco spine label. Copy letter “X” (out of series) from an edition limited to 80 copies; hand-produced by George Percival at Leicester. First Edition, working manuscript copy. Lubbock’s own copy, with unbound sheets for the book and his working layout with penciled pages (including title and copyright pages) and typescript with numerous hand-corrections throughout. Signed by the author / artist, J.G. Lubbock on the limitation page. The typography and printing of the text is by Will Carter at the Rampant Lions Press, Cambridge. Lot Amendments Condition: Light wear overall; some finger-soiling and small ink spots to extra suite (likely from Lubbock himself), otherwise clean with brilliantly colored artwork; near fine.
