Robertson and J. Duncan Date: 1786 Description: [2], 5-98, 103-110 pp. (of?). With 10 woodcut illustrations. (24mo) 9.7x6.2 cm. (3¾x2½"), rear board present but detached, lacking front board, spine perished. Rare, though incomplete, illustrated Scottish children's book. Among the stories are King Lear and his three daughters; Damon and Dorcas; The Old Mouse, and the point of death; The American Merchant; The History of Major Tommy and Master Harry, etc., 12 in all, though the last two listed here are incomplete, and the final story, The History of Mr. Ashfield, is not here, beginning on p.111. Lacking 3 illustrations (the frontispiece and the cuts for the final two stories), and a undetermined number of pages. OCLC/WorldCat lists only 11 copies of various editions, 1778 to 1804, but not this one, and none from Scotland. Title-page with old ink ownership signature of Elizabeth Sager. Sold as is. Lot Amendments Condition: Title-page detached, chipped and soiled; fair condition, but rare. Item number: 213732
