In 2003, to mark the centenary of the teddy bear, Gyles and Michele Brandreth created a unique collection of original limited edition bears that Gyles promoted personally on the Home Shopping Network on television in the United States of America and around the world. These beautiful bears were designed by Gyles and Michele and created by Ron Banafato. Each bear had a special golden key to allow the owner free access to the Teddy Bear Museum in Stratford-upon-Avon. This lot includes the unique prototypes of the bears that were created for this collection. These are the bears that Gyles took with him to the United States to display on the Home Shopping Network. The collection includes: 1. The 1902 Brown Bear. 2. The 2002 Blonde Bear. 3. The Teddy Bear Museum Baby Bear complete with his own nappy and bag. 4. Sleepy Bear in his red nightshirt and nightcap (in his special bear bag). 5. Little Lilibet, named in honour of Elizabeth II whose Golden Jubilee fell in the centenary year of the teddy bear, (Gyles Brandreth is the author of Philip & Elizabeth: Portrait of a Marriage, Century, 2002). 6. The large Cinnamon Bear with his own bear bag. 7. The Gyles Bear complete with his own personalised jumper, (As a trademark, Gyles Brandreth wore distinctive knitwear on TV in the 1970s and 1980s, jumpers designed by George Hostler who also created knitwear for Diana, Princess of Wales). 8. Henry VIII Bear, named in honour of the English monarch who once owned the property in Greenhill Street, Stratford-upon-Avon that was the home of the Teddy Bear Museum. 9. The reproduction of the Schuco teddy bear and monkey, constant companions who lived in the Tudor bedroom at the Teddy Bear Museum, (See The Teddy Bear Hall of Fame: A Century of Historic Bears by Michele Brown, published by Headline, 1996). 10. The Home Shopping Network Silver Anniversary Bear, this bear was created to celebrate the Home Shopping Network’s 25th anniversary and features 5 embroidered flags representing the different countries that broadcast the Home Shopping Network. As with the other bears in this collection, this is the sample that Gyles Brandreth used in his appearances on HSN, (See Sunday Telegraph, December 2002).
