Comprising approximately 212 color Polaroid photographs, each signed or inscribed in the white margin below the image, most with typed labels affixed to the verso listing the name of the sitter, date and location of each shot. The earliest Polaroids, those circa 1976 (approximately 50): 3 3/4 x 4 inches (10.2 x 10.5 cm); the balance 4 1/4 x 3 1/2 inches (11 x 9.5 cm). Very well preserved overall with very few instances of smudges to signatures, emulsion cracks, etc. Tim Boxer began working as photographer, assistant and ghost writer for renowned New York Post society columnist Earl Wilson in the 1970s. The column, It Happened Last Night took Boxer to countless film premiers, Broadway opening nights, society events and all the parties, restaurants and nightclubs frequented by the glitterati of the day. With remarkable foresight, Boxer carried two cameras, the first was his Nikon which was used for the official images published in the newspapers and magazines and the second his personal Polaroid which produced instant candids of the celebrities in private moments. At Boxer's request the Polaroids were then signed on the spot with a felt-tipped pen. This remarkable collection includes Andy Warhol Jacqueline Onassis, Truman Capote, Elizabeth Taylor, Norman Mailer, Brooke Shields, Hugh Hefner, Sean Connery, Leonard Bernstein, Henry Kissinger, Robert De Niro and many other luminaries. Actors and models in their salad days include: Meryl Streep, Bill Murray, Margaux Hemingway, Matt Dillon, Sissy Spacek, Robert Duvall, Cybil Sheppard, Farrah Fawcett, Sylvester Stallone, Candice Bergen, Marlo Thomas, Mamie Van Doren, John Voight and others. Established stars include: Sammy Davis Jr., Jack Lemmon, Walter Matthau, Milton Berle, George Burns, Barbara Walters, Jerry Lewis, Raquel Welch, Shirley MacLaine, Tony Curtis Gloria Swanson, Omar Sharif, Michael Caine and others. Authors include: Arthur Miller, Joan Collins, Herman Wouk, Elie Wiesel and more. The glamorous New York City locations of the photographs, preserved only by Boxer's labels, include the Plaza Hotel, the Waldorf-Astoria, the St. Regis, the Playboy Club, the Russian Tea Room, Tavern on the Green, Maxwell's Plum, Sardi's, Lincoln Center, etc. During the same period Andy Warhol was also known to carry a Polaroid camera and produced posed portraits of many of the same stars. The spirit of Warhol's oft-quoted statement "In the future everyone will be famous for fifteen minutes" is embodied in Boxer's Polaroids, and the phrase has formed the basis for the society magazine he runs today called 15MinutesMagazine.com.
