PALESTINIAN, DATED 1807 (?)
THE TOPOGRAPHY OF THE HOLY LAND PALESTINIAN, DATED 1807 (?) A representation of Palestine, with mountains and the river Jordan at the top, the central lower section depicting locations where Biblical events occurred, including the Crucifixion of Christ on Golgotha, the Resurrection of Christ, the Patriarch emerging from the Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre holding the candles which had miraculously been lit from Christ's Tomb, the framed section bordered with the walls of Jerusalem; the surrounding landscape scattered with representations of other Scriptural episodes notably Christological scenes, for example the Baptism at the top right and the Nativity to the lower right; Sts. George and Demetrius in a mirrored pose to the left with the Mother of God and Christ in a playful pose above, God the Father seated on a throne in a radiant orb presiding over the events, the graphic composition painted with bold colours 27¾ x 26 7/8 in. (70.5 x 93.5 cm.)

THE TOPOGRAPHY OF THE HOLY LAND PALESTINIAN, DATED 1807 (?)
