Debenham or C.S. Wright; 5 maps, 4 of them folding, 10 panoramic views. (8vo) 8¾x5½, original half linen and blue boards, paper spine labels, jackets. First Edition. An exhaustive and riveting first-hand account of Scott's last expedition, which has become a classic of Antarctic literature and one of the most sought-after of polar narratives. Laid in is a letter from London booksellers, Maggs Bros., dated 28th June, 1932 to their customer - San Francisco doctor E.S. Kilgore, M.D. - indicating that Maggs acquired the out-of-print set new from Constable's reserve supply. Both volumes entirely unopened. Extra spine labels tipped to front endpapers. Rare in the pictorial jackets. Spence 277. Lot Amendments Condition: Mild finger soiling to boards; some foxing to edges and text; offsetting to endpapers from extra title labels, else both volumes near fine, in jackets with slight sunning to pictorial front panels, light soiling to white rear panels.
