Thomas Patch (Exeter, 1725 – Firenze, 1782) L’ARNO DALLE CASCINE COL PONTE ALLA CARRAIA olio su tela, cm 72,5x128,5 THE ARNO RIVER FROM CASCINE TO PONTE ALLA CARRAIA oil on canvas, cm 72,5x128,5 Il dipinto ripete variandone le figure una veduta eseguita nel 1771 per Horace Mann, console inglese a Firenze, amico e protettore di Thomas Patch Secondo un uso inaugurato da Gaspar van Wittel e utilizzato dal grande vedutista olandese anche nei suoi soggetti fiorentini, questa veduta era stata eseguita in pendant con quella opposta, che mostra l’Arno e la Zecca Vecchia a San Niccolò, quest’ultima più volte replicata. I dipinti citati passarono a Houghton Hall nella collezione del Marchese di Cholmondeley (cfr. M. Gregori-S. Blasio, Firenze nella pittura e nel disegno dal Trecento al Settecento, Milano 1994, figg. 298-999).
