Endorsement as Brigadier General on reverse of 2pp letter written to Jackson by Colonel Harper, 7.5 x 9.25 in., "Camp Near Centreville." August 12, 1861. Harper's letter has to do with a private named John N. Harris who Harper feels is possibly being mistreated. Jackson responds in typical Jackson form (by the book), and states: Hd Qrs. 1st Brigd. Aug. 12th, 1861 He can not be released Unless the order comes through Genl. Johnston T.J. Jackson Brig. Genl. Pacs Comdg. 1st Brigd. Condition: Typical wear to document with expected folds, few ink smudges. Ink remains bright and legible.
