Thomas Webb & Sons Cameo Glass Vase Titled Hebe George Woodall early 20th century, GW27 Of ovoid form, with a short waisted neck and everted rim, in semi-translucent raisin brown colored glass cased in opaque blue tinted white colored glass, depicting the goddess of youth, daughter of Zeus and Hera, in a diaphanous gown standing in a garden and pouring water from an ewer. Height 7 3/4 inches. See Christopher Woodall Perry, The Cameo Glass of Thomas and George Woodall p. 107, for a photograph by George Woodall depicting a cameo glass vase numbered GW27 and titled Hebe, however, the shape of the vase and the figure is different from the present example. Another photograph by George Woodall is illustrated in this source depicting a cameo glass vase with a figure pouring water from an ewer which is identical to the example offered here, however, it is titled Pluvia, p. 118 According to Christopher Woodall Perry, the great-great-grandson of George Woodall the production codes were not unique. A vase titled Hebe was exhibited with other George Woodall cameo articles at the Wahliss Galleries, 88 Oxford Street, London, December, 1907 We thank Christopher Woodall Perry for his contribution to this cataloging. C
Appears to be in good condition; there are a few very short scuff marks located on the figure's right calf and shoulder area, which in this appraiser's opinion are not of great significance; the interior is nice and clean (not water stained); there is a small area of discoloration on the interior top rim edge of the vase which has the appearance of being frosted as compared with the glossy finish elsewhere on the rim
