THREE BOOKS OF RELIGIOUS SAYINGS SAFAVID IRAN, 17TH CENTURY Comprised of three texts, the Sahifa Kamila , the Sad Kalima (Hundred Sayings) of Imam 'Ali and the Forty Sayings of the Prophet with their translation by Jami, Persian manuscript on paper, 178ff. plus 1 fly-leaf, the first text with 18ll. of alternating black naskh and red nasta'liq with gold interlinear lines, laid down on blue paper between gold rules, copious marginal notes, opening folio with gold and polychrome illuminated headpiece and floral margins; the second text with 3ll. of gold thuluth alternated with 1 or 2ll. of black nasta'liq flanked by panels of floral illumination and gold thuluth , catchwords, between gold and polychrome margins, opening folio with gold and polychrome illumination; third text with 7ll. of naskh and nasta'liq all contained within gold-sprinkled panels, each folio with two such panels with 4ll. of diagonal nasta'liq , laid down between gold, blue and green rules on borders with gold floral illumination, opening folio with gold and polychrome illuminated headpiece and naskh in clouds reserved against gold ground, preceding folio with similar shamsa , folios loose in binding, areas of staining, in repaired brown morocco, the red doublures with central decoupé gilt medallion Folio 9 x 5½in. (22.9 x 14cm.)
