Beschreibung:

Comprising two officers and and one enlisted man, all pencil identified. First is an early of view Cadwallader C. Washburn (1818-1882) as Colonel, 2nd Wisconsin Cavalry. Washburn assumed command of the regiment in October 1861; promoted Brig. Gen. 7/62; Maj. Gen. 11/62. The pre-war Congressman commanded the 2nd Wisconsin Cavalry in Arkansas and Louisiana before being advanced to Brig. Gen. Washburn then participated in Vicksburg operations and later as Maj. Gen. commanded the 13th Corps in the Dept. of the Gulf and Texas where his forces took Fort Esperanza on Matagora Bay. Post-war, Washburn returned to Congress (1867-71) and was later elected Governor of Wisconsin (1872-73). An officer vignette by Burpees Union Gallery, Beloit is identified in period pencil as Eban S. Chase. who joined the 1st Wisconsin Cavalry as Pvt., Co. K, 9/64; promoted 1st Lieut.; m/o 7/19/65. The enlisted man by Douglas & Young, Milwaukee is penciled Pvt. Sumner W. Pooler having late war green three-cent revenue stamp. Pooler joined Co. C, 43rd Wisconsin as Pvt. 9/64; m/o 6/24/65.
