three mixed media works on card, adhered to the recto of a larger folded card one extensively inscribed inside and signed Seif, another extensively inscribed inside and signed Wanly, one signed Sief but uninscibed 5 x 4 1/4 in., 12.2 x 10.8 cm (each) Provenance: Accompanied with an envelope addressed to Mr Spencer of the British Institute, Alexandria. Seif Wanly was an Egyptian painter who is credited with introducing Modern Art to Egypt, having studied with the Italian artist Otorino Becchi. In 1942 he set up his own studio in Alexandria with his brother Adham and together they participated in more than 17 institiutional exhibitions worldwide, most notably at the biennales of Venice and São Paulo. Today an entire floor of the Mahmoud Said Museum in Alexandria is dedicated to the works of these pioneering artistic brothers.
