Title: Three original fabric sections from classic aircraft Author: Place: [n.p.] Publisher: Date: [Early 20th Century] Description: Three individual sheets, each with an accompanying original square of fabric measuring approximately 5x5 cm (2x2"), originally mounted beneath a reproduction photograph of the respective aircraft, with descriptive text beneath. Each sheet approximately 51x38 cm (20x15¼"). The fabric samples are all present and detached from their original mounts. These artifacts were originally sold by Smithsonian Institution in the late 1970's. Includes squares of fabric from: Curtiss NC - 4. The NC-4 was a Curtiss NC flying boat which was designed by Glenn Curtiss and his team, and manufactured by Curtiss Aeroplane and Motor Company. The hull was built by the world renowned Herreshoff Manufacturing Corporation in Bristol, Rhode Island. The Fokker D . VII "U.10." A German World War I fighter aircraft designed by Reinhold Platz of the Fokker-Flugzeugwerke. Germany produced around 3,300 D.VII aircraft in the second half of 1918. Fokker T-2. a single engine floatplane designed in the Netherlands in the early 1920s as a torpedo bomber. Three were bought by the US Navy who tested them against other aircraft from the US and the UK. The T.IIs did not win further production orders but remained in service for several years. Lot Amendments Condition: Fabric samples detached from original mounts but present, occasional bit of chipping or discoloration to samples; near fine. Item number: 289827
