Three: Quartermaster & Honorary Captain C. H. Edwards King’s Royal Rifle Corps British War and Victory Medals (Q.M. & Lieut.); Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., 3rd issue, small latter reverse (1712 Clr-Sjt., K.R.R.C.) fine and better (3) £100-140 Footnote Charles Henry Edwards was born in Beaminster, Dorset on 10 February 1868. A Labourer by occupation and a member of the West Kent Militia, he attested for the King’s Royal Rifle Corps at Winchester on 6 February 1884, aged 18 years, 4 months. Serving with the 4th and later the 7th Battalions, he served in India, February 1889-October 1890 and Burma, October 1890-December 1892. Awarded the Army L.S. & G.C. by Army Order 191 of 1902. As a Colour Sergeant he was discharged having given notice on 9 September 1905. Edwards attested for the Special Reserve at Sheerness on 21 September 1914, he was then a employed as a labourer aged 46 years, 7 months. On the day of his attestation he was appointed Acting Company Quartermaster Sergeant in the 6th Battalion K.R.R.C. He was posted as Company Quartermaster Sergeant with the 15th Battalion on 31 October 1914. As Regimental Quartermaster Sergeant he was discharged to a commission on 14 January 1916. As Quartermaster and Lieutenant he served in the 23rd Reserve Battalion King’s Royal Rifle Corps. On 7 February 1918 he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on attachment to the 45th Labour Corps H.Q. Promoted to Captain in January 1919, he relinquished his commission on completion of service whilst retaining his rank on 27 December 1919. His address at that time being, ‘Deal Villa, New Road, Barnet’. Sold with copied service papers, m.i.c., and other research.
