THREE SMALL SOAPSTONE FIGURES 18TH/19TH CENTURY One is a recumbent dog, its head curved around to one side, and with fine hair markings, carved from a beige-colored stone. The second is a figure of Budai shown seated leaning on his sack while holding a string of beads, and wearing loosely draped robes that expose his belly, carved from a warm, sand-colored stone. The third is an unusual carving of a luohan seated beside a tiger, the two well carved from the beige areas of the stone while the remainder retains the rough, dark brown skin of the stone. 3, 3 1/8 and 4½ in. (7.5, 8 and 11.5 cm.) wide (3)
