Three wartime typed letters signed by Clementine Churchill and addressed to George Rance, the man who was tasked with fitting up the War Rooms beneath Whitehall with furniture and equipment. Comprising: a letter by Churchill's wife congratulating with Mr Rance on "the well deserved honour which has been conferred upon you by the King"; a letter reading "I have been looking at the photograph of the picture of Marshal Stalin, which you so kindly suggested should be taken for one of the functions being held for my Red Cross 'Aid to Russia' Fund. It was very kind of you to have this done, and I would like you to express my thanks to Mr Cliffe, who took the photograph. I am most grateful to you for helping the Fund in this way"; a letter thanking Mr Rance for getting "my little table polished so quickly and so beautifully" and adding "I want you to know how grateful I am to you for this and for the many other services which you perform for the Prime Minister and for me", three pages, 8vo and 4to, 10 Downing Street, 7 January 1943- 16 June 1944. Also included are three photographs signed and inscribed by Clementine Churchill with Christmas greetings, one featuring Churchill with his wife and daughter Mary "on board 'Renown' returning from Quebec Conference".
