TILLI, Michele Angelo (1655-1740). Catalogus plantarum horti Pisani. Florence: Tartinius and Franchius, 1723. 2 o (335 x 230 mm). Engraved portrait, engraved title vignette, 2 engraved folding plans and 50 engraved plates by Cosimo Mogalli after Tilli (light browing and staining). Contemporary vellum (rebacked with vellum). Provenance : Wagner ("Biblioth. Wagneriana" engraved bookplate on verso of title); Missouri Botanical Garden (small ink stamp on title and page 51); purchased from Hamill and Barker, 1965. FIRST EDITION. "The Botanical Garden at Pisa was founded around 1543 and was... one of the first such gardens in Europe... Thus the long alphabetical list of plants in this volume is one of the most important for the early eighteenth century, and the volume memorializes the garden for all time" (Hunt 457).
