Jugge] Date: [1574] Description: Leaves 188-102 (Ll8, Mm-Pp8). Text in 2 columns, 63 lines, black letter. Woodcut initials. (folio) 34.7x23.3 cm. (13¾x9¼"), modern boards with paper cover label. Complete text of the first and second books of Chronicles, from an early folio edition of the Bishops' Bible. Produced under the authority of the established Church of England in 1568, the Bishops' translation was substantially revised in 1572, and this revised edition was the base text for the Authorized King James Version of 1611. STC 2109; Herbert 137. Lot Amendments Condition: leaf 90 with 4" closed tear into gutter margin and text; leaf 117 with 3 small holes affecting lettering in 4 lines of text; very good or better in fine modern binding.
