Title: Histoire de l'Eglise Author: Choisy, Abbe Francois Timoleon de Place: Paris Publisher: Jean Baptiste Coignard, et al Date: 1703-23 Description: 11 volumes. (4to) 24.5x18 cm (9¾x7") period full calf, spines gilt, morocco labels, marbled endpapers, edges speckled red. First Edition. De Choisy was the author of several religious works, including the present, but is best remembered for his "Memoires" for their accurate portrayal of 17th century Paris. De Choisy was born in Paris. His father was attached to the household of the duke of Orléans, and his mother, who was on intimate terms with Anne of Austria, was regularly called upon to amuse Louis XIV. By a whim of his mother, the boy was dressed like a girl until he was eighteen, and, after appearing for a short time in man's costume, he resumed woman's dress on the advice of Madame de La Fayette. Lot Amendments Condition: Bindings rubbed, some chipping to spine ends; foxing; very good. Item number: 294088
