Illustrated with 25 copper-engraved Leonard Baskin etchings, mostly in color, each signed in pencil by Baskin, all are printed by Michael Kuch; plus duo-tone engraving on colophon and on prospectus; decorative title (in book and same for prospectus). (Folio) 16½x11¼, full green vellum bound by Daniel Gehnrich, front cover with gilt-stamped animal vignette and lettered in gilt, housed in the publisher's quarter green vellum and green cloth folding clamshell box, with gilt-lettered red morocco spine label. Printed on hand-made paper in Europe; each signature containing a French sheet made in 1905; letterpress achieved by D. Keleher of Hadley, MA. No. 23 of 26 total hand-numbered copies. First Edition. Signed in pencil by Leonard Baskin in the colophon. Baskin (1922-2000) is widely considered one of the preeminent figures of 20th century American Art. Creatively active for over five decades as a sculptor, printmaker, painter, illustrator, critic, book publisher, and educator, Baskin represents a powerful voice both visually and intellectually. Baskin’s art has received many awards and honors and has permanent collections in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, MOMA, The Nation Museum of American Art, the Vatican Museum, etc. This is one of his scarce limited fine press titles, done in only 26 total copies.
