Lawrence, many black & white drawings in the text, pictorial endpapers. Green cloth lettered in red & gilt, cover illus. in white & brown, top edge gilt. Trimmed front panel of jacket laid in. First Edition. Inscribed and signed by London to George Wharton James on front free endpaper: "To George Wharton James - I'd rather by champion of the world than President of the United States. Jack London. Dec. 28, 1906." George Wharton James (1858-1923) was a prolific author of books on California and the West, and American Indian arts and crafts. He was a long-time friend of Jack London. Blanck's state "B" of the magazine rubberstamp on copyright page. BAL 11886; Sisson & Martens, p. 23. Lot Amendments Condition: Slight wear to spine tips and corners; couple small smudges to front board; large bookplate of noted London collector Willard S.
