Title: The Grave, a Poem Author: Blair, Robert Place: London Publisher: T. Bensley Date: 1808 Description: xiv, 36, [4] pp. Illustrated with 12 copper-engreved plates including the added pictorial title-page after drawings by William Blake; frontispiece portrait of Blake after T. Phillips; all etched by L. Schiavonetti. (4to) 14x11, original boards, paper cover label, rebacked with cloth; modern cloth slipcase. Some of Blake's most characteristic work is presented here, a striking interpretation of Blair's poem. This was John Quinn's copy, with his bookplate, and contains the rare four-page prospectus at the end. There was also a folio edition published the same year. Ray, The Illustrator and the Book in England, 6. Lot Amendments Condition: Rubbing to the boards, corners showing; foxing to title, frontispiece and lightly to some of the plates, occasional minor soiling, still a very good or better copy, untrimmed and in the original boards, uncommon thus, with important provenance.
